A Family Affair

On the Patio we enjoyed an evening of escape from the humidity, and sat under the twinkling stars, chatting. Bursts of laughter, and serious topics made up the ebb and flow of conversation as we caught up. Seventeen years is a long time to be away from family.

As we talked it was evident that we each had other family members and parents whom we hadn’t seen in many years. Our life stories involving separation of adult child and parent bonded us.

Bearing the void from an absent parent will consume most, if they allow it to. Ignoring the void can build calluses on the heart. Accepting difficulties in relationships is important. Knowing when to pursue and when to let be is the challenge.

My prayer this morning is for all of those separated from a parent or other family member by a conflict. I pray you will not be consumed by grief and void, that your heart will remain loving, and that you can have wisdom in knowing when to pursue or to let be the relationship that is wounded.

Join me today and take a deep look inward.
