Raindrops, Tears and Applause

Up a little late this morning, time change seems to always mess me up. As I sit’n’sip at my desk, the rhythm of the rain on the roof brings back a memory of my 4th grade talent show.  Dressed in a yellow rain coat, boots and holding an umbrella over my shoulder, I stepped out on the stage to sing, the old BJ Thomas tune “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT1HCQcSHW0

Little did I know then, that when I sang the last line first, got flustered ran off the stage crying, that this behavior went against everything the lyrics defined. As the audience roared with laughter, I stood backstage crying in the arms of a classmates mother. She lovingly assured me, that I could sing, that I had an amazing voice and to get back out there. A silence had fallen over the audience as she turned me around towards the stage and gently pushed. As I crept out into the spotlight, the crowd gave a thunderous applause, and another classmates mother started playing the piano. Somehow, I found my voice and belted it out, and a star was born!

If there hadn’t been a movie and a need for this song, a writer, composer and a singer I would never have fallen in love with it. If it weren’t for all the songs written and sung I wouldn’t have the passion for singing and music like I do. If it weren’t for those Mom’s willing to support and encourage me I would never have walked back out onto that stage or any other. And when the applause came, it gave me the inspiration needed to try again.

When raindrops keep falling on your head you can see them as life trouble’s, or see them as life’s refreshment. You might just need a little push, a lot of applause and a sleeve for those tears.

Join me today, as we become the refreshing encouragement and inspiration that other’s need.

Father, we admit we don’t always see any positive aspects in the midst of our troubles, but we rely today on you, to point us in the right direction. May we allow your spirit to fill us and encourage us, may we always sing your praises and share you with others. In Jesus name Amen.
