Keep A Song In Your Heart

Waking to the sound of sweet singing coming from the backyard choir. As I lay listening my heart is touched, and my memory recalls a few lines to old hymns. In the Garden and How Great Thou Art flow through my inner being taking me back to earlier days of sitting with my family in church. My mother and my aunt and uncle were songbird’s in the church choir, which encouraged me to be the same. These hymns for them were favored, meaningful and you could hear them humming or singing them at any given time.

Music can be a coping tool as it is uplifting, comforting and inspiring. Humming a melody and reciting lyrics can take the burdened mind far away when the situation at hand is dreadful. Probably why Lawrence Welk always said at the end of his music show “keep a song in your heart“. Now I’m telling my age, most of you young people will have to YouTube him.

The book of Psalms is poetry, music and where I turn before I turn on some tunes. The words are healing, uplifting and encouraging. The book of Proverbs brings lightheartedness and both bring wisdom to my situation when my mind is fresh out. Keeping these verses in my heart and mind or close at hand on my iPad is vital, as vital as keeping the conversation with the Master going all day long.

Join me today…and keep a song in your heart and or share it with a friend.

Father, as we face dreadful situations, let us hear your melody in our ears. As we live each day, let us live it for you singing your praises. Thank you for the loved ones in our lives, bless us as we must say goodbye and fill our hearts with your hopeful song of Heaven’s reunion. In Jesus name Amen.
