It’s Really About Matching….Who Cares if You’re Scratching!

Searching piles upon piles, racks after racks and looking at endless online varieties of potential Christmas outfits is pure “heck” for most. But especially for those who have either gained weight since last Christmas, or found that their favorite year after year, go to sweater just became a hit at the Ugly Sweater party.

Don we know our gay apparel ….Fa la la la la….la la la la

I work in a small boutique part-time. Positive body image is a huge issue for practically every shopper of every size. The designers don’t seem to understand a woman’s shape at all and trying on clothes for most every woman is pure “heck.” As a person who struggles with properly fitting her own body I’ve been known to down a cheeseburger and fries immediately after doing a Houdini act in the dressing room. My negative mindset is that nothing fits me anyways so I might as well eat. I deserve it after that intense work-out of wiggling, squishing and jumping up and down in the dressing room. It all makes me hungry….or should I say hangry!

But seriously, designers are the devil. They create cute and trendy styles we all want to wear, but they aren’t made for everyone. They look so divine on the hanger, or on the girl with no bulges or curves. For instance the big thing now is for shirts to be long, they are called pikos or tunics. Well that’s all fine and dandy but the sleeves are made so small and tight that even Popeye’s girl Olive Oyl couldn’t fit into one comfortably.

And really who wants comfortable clothing when it comes to the family Christmas photo!? It really is all about matching….who cares if you’re scratching! Fa la la la la….la la la la. But we seem to put our family through “heck” trying to achieve that perfect looking family.

Hubs is the worst and our son comes in at a close second when it comes to getting gussied up and posing for a Christmas photo, well any photo for that matter. Neither of them want to be told what to wear! Who cares if Aunt Pearl out in California hasn’t seen them in years….tell her to get Facebook!

Does choosing your Christmas wardrobe bring irritation to yourself or those you love? Do you find yourself being even less joyful about celebrating the upcoming birth of our Savior due to poor body image?

Join me as we worry and stress less about our body shapes or clothing trends, not letting either get in the way of or steal the real joy that is to be celebrated at Christmas.

“God we give you all the glory, praise and honor for the gift of your Son…for your love. Let us remember that you love us unconditionally, regardless of body image. Help us Lord, to gain the desire to change our health for the better, and to treat our bodies well. May we be mindful of the impact our actions have on those around us. In Jesus name Amen.”
