Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

I’ve been observing my daughter’s daily almost two hour ritual in getting ready for work. The hair spray, flat iron, modeling in front of the mirror, poofing and powdering, all the while her red dirt country songs play from her iphone.

I am amazed and yet wonder how did she learn all of this? Oh, that’s right, me. My hub says I can’t even take the trash out without some kind of “sprucing up” going on. Now, he does exaggerate slightly. And yes, I take out the trash!

As women we tend to develop a “getting ready” ritual that we dance through every time we plan to leave the house. In part we learn this from either our Mother or other female influences.

Today, I noticed my daughter paused to read a daily bible verse and reflection. Before she left I asked her what she had read. Her answer was a little weak, yet I know her heart was pointing in the right direction.

Taking time to “get ready” for our day needs to include a conversation with God, bible study, reflection and application. We need to spend a little extra time getting the inside ready, as we never know who we will be influencing.

What happens when we spend more time getting the outside of us ready, while neglecting the inside?

Who are you influencing today?
