Dirty Business.. Living What We Learn

I’ve just spent a week away from home, traveling two of those days in our car with our sprightly, six year old granddaughter. Need I say more!? While the long trip and the reason for the trip were unpleasant, being with our little one was tiring but enjoyable. As she trashed our car with toys, movies, crayons and paper, I was encouraged to see progress in her writing and knowledge of her vowel sounds. It is exciting to receive her coloring pages that now show some control and color coordination when just a month ago, she scribbled. It’s amazing to see her practice what she is learning even with manners and obedience. In order for her to live what she learns, there must be consistency, encouragement, examples of self-control from those around her.

Personally, I know things but don’t always do them. This doesn’t always serve in my best interest. For example, in a heated situation with someone. I know that I should keep my negative comments to myself but…..I don’t always practice what I know. In another case I know that I should save money but…..being invited to someone’s jewelry party obligates me to spend, even when I have to dip into that savings.

The dirtiest words ever said are; consistency, self-control, practice and studying.. yuck! Unfortunately, keeping in this mind frame stunts our growth.

Let me encourage us all today by opening our bibles to 2 Timothy 3 but especially verse 7 “always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.”  If we don’t apply what we learn in Gods word we will be gullible and ignorant, easily swayed by those looking to take advantage of us. I’m not talking so much about that blonde moment, like when someone told my daughter she needed to change her blinker fluid in her car, and she believed them (sorry sweetheart). I am referring to seeking Gods will and truth for your life and then doing as HE says otherwise those who do not teach truth will deceive us.

Is it possible you are like me and we struggle with living what we learn?

Join me today as we take care of that dirty business! We don’t want to be mislead!

“God, put those in our path that teach truth, protect us from deceivers. As we seek guidance from your word, light the desire fire within us to follow through and live what we learn. Allow us to be a worthy example to those around us. In Jesus name Amen.”
