At Last

Sipping coffee and stepping out into the sultry morning, I was expecting cooler temps. I am awaiting the time when we can have our evening fires. I am looking forward to lighter more refreshing air to breath. I am in anticipation for Fall and Winter weather, I have a longing for those cooler days when all my creative dreams come alive.

As I sit and read my bible, I reflect and relate my longing to Adam. He waited and longed for a suitable mate.
In Genesis 2:23 Adam said “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
As I read this, almost instantly the song by Etta James comes to mind “At Last”.  I sing the opening line to myself then turn on my ipod to crank it up, so powerful, deeply soulful you can hear the longing and then the celebration in her voice. No one can sing it like she did!
And nothing or no one can fill the longing in our hearts like God can. He created us as relational beings, fashioned after himself who is also relational. When we come into a deeply spiritual, soulful relationship with him, there is power! All the searching, all the emptiness is gone, our lives have purpose, meaning.

Maybe Etta leads the choir in heaven and when we as sinners repent, ask God to forgive us, to draw us close, and to give us eternal life with him…..I bet that choir sings “At Last.”
