Don’t Get Left, Holding the Spoon!

Waking to another rainy day, after a long rainy night seems to be the routine here. During my prayer time, I’m seriously concerned I’ll hear God say “build a boat.” Looking around at how the world is behaving along with the rain, and that command truly wouldn’t surprise me.

What does surprise me is how people, myself included can “stir the pot” and sometimes it isn’t intentional. I recently found myself with a spoon in hand in the middle of some long time family drama. I was told something, and asked not to pass that along to anyone. Which I did and it wasn’t hard to do. Then a few weeks passed, and one of that persons family came to me, telling me the very same thing. So the information was shared with others, I am silently patted myself on the back for not spreading it. Well, the information made this person upset and hurt, it contributed to a life long problem that I knew about. What hurt even more is that during the conversation I admitted that I already knew and didn’t tell. I wasn’t thinking about the outcome of what I said, which can be the case most generally when I open my mouth. Well, after our conversation this person, went and scolded the other person for sharing things with me, and now that person isn’t talking to me.  I gave their pot a BIG O’l stir and jumped in!

I love to talk, I love to listen but paying attention isn’t something I do very often. IF is such a big word, but IF I had just paid attention, listened to both people, and took their problem to God during my prayer time, I wouldn’t be left holding the spoon. My spirit tells me now to make a mends for what I’ve done. Even though I didn’t intend to contribute to the hurt…I did. And I am reminded of how bad that hurts, as I myself have been burned by someone who stirred the pot, or started the fire.

Have you been the one holding the spoon, or the one getting burned?

Join me today….as we pay more attention to a situation, weigh the outcome of our speech/actions, and apologize when we are wrong. And seriously, steer clear of an already burning kitchen!

“God, we look to you for help and wisdom. A situation can get sticky pretty quickly, let us be part of the clean up crew, not the one holding the spoon. Bring healing and restoration to those who have been burned. We thank you in Jesus name Amen.”
