I Need My Fix (Got Any Oreo’s)

“Ahh” paradise is mine this morning , as I sit back on a soft cushion, feet propped and filling my lungs with a welcomed cool breeze. The tweets are happy, flitting around searching for that special tasty crunchy bug. The sky is baby blue and the clouds are spread thin. On the ground is no evidence of last nights promised rain. I am getting my fix!

As I sit I chuckle at an earlier conversation with a dear sister about  our emotional eating habits aka “gettin our fix”. Yes we laugh at our hangups, otherwise we’d be in tears all the time. She told me she had spent the month of June emotionally eating due to a loved one passing away. In our minds we both know where she went wrong, so we don’t go there right away. Instead we talk about Oreo’s.  The conversation went like this; she says “so I get in my car and drive to Wal Mart, go in and buy a bag of Oreo’s, go to my car and eat the whole bag” to which I ask “well what can you do next time during the drive there to stop yourself”? she says “call a friend” (meaning me, another emotional eater) to which I say “and the friend brings the milk”. As we crack ourselves up, she admits she didn’t walk in the Spirit during the time of this loss, she walked in the flesh. I can totally relate and understand where she’s coming from and she has witnessed my transformation from the old habits to newer healthier ones. We both know that our “fix” needs to be satisfied in a personal relationship with God, and in his word not Oreo’s.

This conversation got me digging in the word. I turned to Galatians 6:1 Paul talks about doing good and restoring gently the one who is caught in sin, but watch yourself or you too can be tempted.

So to all my sisters if you got Oreo’s call me and I’ll bring the milk…..but I promise I won’t let us eat the whole bag!
