Weekend Meet Discipline

While typing this I barely have a place to sit. Our patio is full of the unwanted leftovers of old used flooring and baseboards, and inside doesn’t look much better. In a small house there is nowhere to put furniture, or cherished items (my son calls junk) so we have groups of stuff here and there, plus a garage full.

I’d like to sit and admire the parts of the floor that are finished, I must paint baseboards and haul off trash. An extra day off work (thank you spring break) will come in handy for our extended weekend project.

Whether we have projects for the weekend or just relaxing, for me it’s very hard to be disciplined in healthy eating. During the week it’s hard but somewhat easier due to keeping a routine/schedule.

Do you find that not keeping a routine or schedule throws off your discipline? Do you listen to those weekend lies that say “it’s the weekend, go ahead cheat a little”? For some cheating a little ends up being a lot. One night, one meal, or one dessert can turn into several if we don’t have control. A small portion or taste is permissible but a lot is not beneficial.

I also think about how my choices on the weekend affect Hubs. He too is trying to get back his discipline in eating healthy and exercise. He does much better during the week than I do, but on weekends I tend to mess us both up.

Weekends can be a huge challenge, as we have more social time, get off our weekly schedule and just plain listen to those lies and rebel.

Join me this week and next weekend as I remind myself of 1 Cor 10:23 “everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial”.

  1. Praying with you this morning for that encouragement and creativity to cook healthy instead of going out to eat, or eating quick fix junk food, and for a calm spirit through the remodeling!!!

  2. I can relate on so many levels. It’s also very difficult to stay disciplined when you are remodeling your floor and thr kitchen is a wreck. I pray all of the time for strength at the end of the day to clean up the kitchen from dust and debris in order to cook a healthy meal.
