I Do My Best to Love

Stepped outside this morning with steaming cup in hand. The frosty air cut quick. I stretched and took in a good breath, bringing clarity to my mind and soul, then I high tailed it back inside.

Opening my bible this morning, I turned to 1 Corinthians 13. Not by chance but because today is the biggest ROMANTIC HOLIDAY of the year, VALENTINES DAY. And because lately our sermons at church have been coming from this chapter.

I struggle like you, with fully understanding and implementing Godly love. Because of my fatherless upbringing, and history of poor love relationships, I’ll venture out to say that I have been pretty confused about love. I have learned along the way the Greek words defining types of love such as Agape, Eros, Philia, and Storge. If you are unfamiliar with these or need to be reminded, go ahead and google them, I did.

We could say that we do our best to love, the way 1 Corinthians 13 describes. For me as a recovering “rebel, hot head” reading the love chapter this morning I am stuck on verse 5. It says that love is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Umm excuse me, what did that say? Well what does easily mean? It takes a lot to build before I get angry.  And I don’t have a written list anywhere for a record, but occasionally I throw out, or hash over the things said and done, that have hurt and angered me. I’m glad I’m not as bad as so and so. I love every body.

How bout you, do you know what love is? Do you love the way God loves?

Join me today in celebrating this special LOVE day, by reading and applying 1 Corinthians 13.
