Love and Patience

I have spent countless hours investing in my marriage, parenting my children, caring for an ailing parent, and helping with a grandchild. I’ve given them each “all I got” and then some. I love them, I am their biggest fan. Yes I am the loudest Mom/Meme in the cheering section at a game! Everyone around me knows who my offspring are for sure!

But what happens when they miss the ball or don’t even step up to the plate?! No one tests your patience quite like your family does. Or at least that’s how it is for me…and apparently Hubs too!

Last year our sweet lil G’babe played church T-ball. Let’s just say she wasn’t a natural, bless her heart. To our surprise, she wants to play again this year even after all the tears she shed last year. Here’s what happened; it started with some backyard practicing and Pops lost his patience when G’babe wouldn’t pay attention. I could hear the “results” as my sweet G’ come running in the house in tears…of course right into my open arms. Through the tears and snot I heard her say that Popie had yelled at her. This wouldn’t be the last we saw of this dramatic reaction. During a game the coach clearly had to yell across the field to get G’ to run to second base, and so she did but…she was balling the whole way. To my surprise this provoked even more impatience within my husband, and he grunted that she would need more practicing at home. Sheesh, men take their sports so seriously!

As he walked off to the concession stand, I thought about how impatient we all can get with each other. Spouse with spouse, parent with child, siblings and I then I thought about God being impatient with me, his child who can’t ever seem to fully get it! Just as the breeze began to blow across my parched summer skin I was kindly reminded of 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. Just as God loves me, we love each other and so we cheer a little louder, and practice a little longer and hug a little tighter.
I’m so excited to see what this season holds for our sweet lil G’babe! Pops will just have to take a chill pill…hahaha.

Join me…..as we show those we love, what love is all about by being patient with them. Loving them where they are and not where we think they should be.

Father, thank you for your patience, and your discipline….showing us unconditional love right where we are….even when we test you over and over again. In Jesus name Amen.

  1. You’re a treasure Rachel ! Our daily struggles are real for sure, but thankfully our God is BIGGER than those struggles!

  2. Such a wonderful post. I struggle with this daily. My husband and youngest try my patience daily. Thank you. I will try much more fervently to pray this prayer when I feel impatient or frustrated!
